The Sports Turf Association (STA) is now accepting applications for the 2013 Robert W. Sheard Scholarship. Deadline for submissions is May 1, 2013.

The STA is dedicated to the promotion of better, safer sports turf through innovation, education and professional programs. In order to further this goal and to encourage, support and provide leadership to those considering a career in the sports turf industry the STA established a scholarship program in 1993. The STA Robert W. Sheard Scholarship in the amount of $1000 may be awarded annually and is intended to assist students with the cost of tuition, books and related expenses. The scholarship program is funded through STA membership fees.

Artificial pitch maintenance – When should it be undertaken?

12.08.31-pitchcare1Winter, spring, summer or fall?   The warm, dry weather conditions of summer make this an ideal time of year to perform certain maintenance tasks on artificial sports pitches. As the seasons seem to shift year to year, this window of opportunity becomes smaller and smaller, and unfortunately the appeal of round-the-clock usage that comes with an artificial pitch often restricts the time that is dedicated to such works, with potential consequences for a pitch’s playing quality during the later autumn and winter months.

STA Field Day Update

NTA Puts Together 1-2-3 Punch for Annual Conference

12.04.20-NTA-LogoThe Northwest Turfgrass Association has put together a virtual 1-2-3 punch for its 66th annual conference, set for this fall on Oct. 28-30.   First, Tim Moraghan, the former director of championship agronomy for the USGA, will be the featured speaker both days of the conference. Secondly, legendary Oregon State University researcher and educator Tom Cook will come out of retirement to lead a panel discussion. And thirdly, everything happens at Bandon Dunes, one of the most magical golf destinations in the world.
