Sportsfield TARS Announcement

12.04.23-Riding-mowerjpgThe WCTA has hinted its intention of running sportsfield specific educational events this summer and we are pleased to make the following announcement:

The first ‘Travelling Annual Road Show’ (TARS) – Sportsfield Edition will be held 1:00pm, Wednesday, August 29th at Scotia Bank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver, hosted by Field Manager, Tom Archibald of the Vancouver Canadians.

Realizing it’s less than 2 weeks away and it’s the beginning of a busy period for many sportsturf managers, we remain hopeful for a strong turnout at this event that will include a 1.5 hour tour of the facility with Tom leading an in-depth discussion of high level in-field maintenance practices, tips and tricks. Tom will also be happy to discuss the stadium’s turf management regime and answer any other questions attendees may have.

We’re also very pleased to announce that Dr. Brian Holl, Professor Emeritus, University of British Columbia, principal of Lamorna Enterprises and WCTA Director, will be making a presentation that we don’t yet have a title for but will be a discussion centering on the value of creating a sportsfield strategy/assessment/value in the community/master plan document (you can see why we’re having difficulty with the name!)

WCTA Executive Director Jerry Rousseau will also be on hand to provide a brief update on association activities along with President Tab Buckner who will be making opening remarks and introducing speakers.

The day’s schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, August 29th:

1:00pm welcome, thanks to the host and update from WCTA Executive Director

1:30pm presentation/tour by Tom Archibald – ‘Field Preparation tips and tricks’

2:45pm coffee/refreshment service

3:00pm Dr. Brian Holl

4:00pm thanks for coming

This is a free educational and networking opportunity sponsored by the Western Canada Turfgrass Association in conjunction with the Vancouver Canadians and Nat Bailey Stadium.  We encourage all WCTA members and anyone interested in professional turf management to attend keeping in mind the topic is very sportsfield specific.

Note that CEC points for pesticide certificates will not be available for this seminar.

Driving Directions to Nat Bailey Stadium:  Click Here  Parking is available on the north side of the stadium and all attendees are asked to enter through the first base gate.

Thanks and if you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact Jerry at exec.director@wctaturf.com.
