Dooley Family, BC Turf Club and WCTA to Partner on 2021 Pat Dooley Memorial Golf Tournament

Patrick Dooley was a promising young golfer, planning to enroll in the Kwantlen Turf Management Diploma program after high school graduation.  Sadly, Patrick passed away from a sudden illness before getting a chance to pursue his dreams.

In hopes of creating a legacy to help others with similar aspirations, the Dooley family and KPU Turf Club began the Patrick Dooley Memorial Golf Tournament, first held in 2016 and held annually at Mayfair Lakes in Richmond ever since.  Funds generated from the tournament support two annual scholarships for worthy KPU Turf Management students and last year, an additional $7000 was contributed to the WCTA turf research fund.

Unfortunately, the 2020 tournament was cancelled due to COVID but we are pleased to announce the 2021 Dooley Tournament is on and the Dooley Family, along with the BC Turf Club, will partner with the Western Canada Turfgrass Association to expand and enhance this wonderful event.

When: Friday, October 8th
Where: Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club, Richmond, BC

Along with the 1:00pm shotgun scramble and banquet, the day will include a morning speaker session, sponsor presentations and outdoor turf equipment demos.  The full program is being worked on and will be released within a few weeks.  Around the same time, we’ll open registration for both players and sponsors.

In the meantime, Stan Kazymerchyk, Lead Turf Management instructor at Kwantlen and tournament organizer had this to say, “The Dooley Tournament is a great event and we’re looking forward to making it even better this year.  There’s already 24 foursomes and at least a dozen tee sponsors committed from last year so when registration officially opens in July, get yourself, or preferably your foursome, signed up before we fill up.”

WCTA President Gary Bartley added, “The WCTA appreciates the Dooley Tournament legacy and of course the major contribution to turf research.  We know that for each of the previous instalments, Stan, the Dooley family and KPU students, have committed a lot of their time and energy into making the event a huge success and I’m honoured that the WCTA will be more involved this year.”

More information will be coming mid-July including official player and sponsor registration!  Call Stan Kazymerchyk at (604) 345-7125 for more information or if you just can’t wait that long.
