Bartley Named as UBC Athletics High Performance Sportsfield Manager

15.05.25-Thunderbirds.logoGary Bartley, formerly of Prairie Coast Equipment, has taken on the role of Grounds Manager for the University of British Columbia Athletics department.

Having officially started May 20, Bartley will oversee the university’s high performance grass fields that include new fields used by the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer club and 2 rugby fields.

Prior to Prairie Coast, Bartley spent 13 years at Quilchena Golf and Country Club in Richmond, BC, 7 of them as superintendent.

Bartley stated, “I’m excited about the role and am happy to get back to tending turf.  With 250 pound lineman, there will be lots of abuse [to the turf] and there is a high expectation of quality just like on the golf course,” adding, “the difference is there is also a safety concern for athletes and budgets tend to be a lot less.”
