Rave Reviews for the Langley Turf Day on Water Efficiency
By Nik Wall
It was a packed house for the “Celebrating Efficient Water Use” turf day hosted by Premier Pacific Seeds Ltd in Langley on Sept 13. Over 70 turf managers, speakers, and sponsors were in attendance from as far Qualicum Beach, Squamish and Victoria to hear a diverse palate of speakers.
The speakers, including Dr. Steve Reid; Chief Seed Breeder at DLF International Seeds, Certified Agrologist Ken Clancy; President of Okanagan Fertilizer, Terry Ormrod; TORO Irrigation and keynote real estate analyst, Don R. Campbell among others, certainly gave attendees the information they came for. Highlights included improvements in grass seed drought tolerance, comparisons of fertilizer release coatings, Fraser Valley population growth projections and future demand for parks and ways to evaluate the efficiency of your irrigation system.
The event was free to attendees including a great catered lunch which was a testament to all the sponsors who came together, especially David and Nikolas Wall from Premier Pacific Seeds Ltd who organized and hosted the event.
Part of the day included an irrigation audit by Terry Ormrod and Whalen Bishop, the latter an irrigation designer from University Sprinklers, on an expertly manicured sportsfield in the Township of Langley. A couple attendees got caught in the spray zone but the excellent late summer weather dried them quickly. In addition, the City of Surrey’s Jamey Serediuk presented a short but well recieved presentation about their Softball City renovations for the 2016 Softball Women’s World Championships.
Prairie Coast Equipment also added to event with some machinery on display and provided tent cover for the delicious lunch.
Additional sponsors who made the event possible included Profile Products Ltd, DLF International Seeds, Sanscorp, Binnie, Okanagan Fertilizer, PrairieCoast Equipment, Farmtek Turf Services, University Sprinklers and TORO Irrigation.
We're already looking forward to next year’s turf day!
