Let’s Roll! Registration Open for 2022 Summer Field Day in Kamloops July 26 & 27

After a lengthy hiatus for well-known reasons, the Western Canada Turfgrass Association (WCTA) and Sports Turf Canada (STC) wish to invite you to participate in our first summer field day since 2019, taking place Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at the two-time STMA Field-of-the-Year winner, Norbrock Field at McArthur Island Park in Kamloops, BC.  Also being planned is a golf outing for Tuesday, July 26th, hosted by the Kamloops Golf & Country Club.

“A two-day event should be an immediate clue that this won’t be your average field day,” stated WCTA President Gary Bartley of UBC Athletics.  He added, “It’s been a long time in the making and we wanted to add another dimension by turning this into a much more social event.  Come for the whole thing, just the education and outdoor trade show or whatever you decide, but we are looking forward to gathering safely, in-person, in the ‘Tournament Capital of Canada’ this coming summer.”

Delegate registration is open at the following link:

Golf and Sports Field Managers Take Note:
Oh it’s good to be back!  If it’s been so long that you don’t recall, just remember that our summer training days are an opportunity to come out to the field, learn from the experts, network with your peers, meet the suppliers and service providers who support the turf management industry and take in live demonstrations right there on the playing surfaces.  Of course there’s lunch involved during the outdoor trade show and extra special for this year, we’ve organized an optional golf outing at the Kamloops Golf & Country Club and an evening reception both planned for the day prior.

For accommodation, a 15% room rate reduction has been secured at the Holiday Inn & Suites Kamloops located at 675 Tranquille Road, just a few minutes drive from our venue.  At the IHG Hotels & Resorts international website (www.ihg.com) use Corporate ID 787061939 under Special Rate section.

A bit about our speakers:
Mike DeCicco, born and raised in Kamloops, has a long family history in the sports turf industry.  Graduating from Kwantlen Polytechnic in 2002, he returned to Kamloops the following year and has been with the City of Kamloops ever since.  DeCicco supervises staff that looks after over 80 sport fields within Canadas ‘Tournament Capital’, winning three prestigious Sport Field Managers Association field of the year awards within the last 3 years. When not at work, and his wife are busy with kids youth soccer teams and coaching duties so he doesn’t leave the fields too much!

Dr. Gregg Munshaw, a native of western Canada, is the Chief Scientist at Pinnacle Ag Research Center near St. Louis, Missouri USA.  He has been in the turf industry for nearly 30 years and worked as a university professor for over half that time in the southern and transitional climatic regions of the United States. Gregg is the author of numerous scientific and extension articles and has educated about turf around the world.  Dr. Munshaw is passionate about reducing turfgrass inputs and has previously served as the Director of Research for the Alliance for Low-Input Sustainable Turf, a non-profit dedicated to developing improved varieties. In his current role he focuses on turfgrass stress alleviation testing new genetics, products, and practices to improve turf and soil health.

CEC/CEU applications for BC and Alberta in progress.

Turf management supplies and service providers take note:
