NTA Conference Offers Education, Fun

The 67th annual conference of the Northwest Turfgrass Association is just around the corner with three days filled with educational opportunities, golf in the sunshine of the Tri-Cities area of Washington and a wine dinner that won’t soon be forgotten. Activities will start on Sunday, Oct. 6 and the conference will conclude on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Anthony Williams, the superintendent at Stone Mountain Golf Club in Georgia, is the featured speaker and is considered a leading authority on Environomics. He was recognized by the Turf and Ornamental Communicators Association as the 2011 Environmental Communicator of the Year. One of his presentations will cover the basics of an effective environomics program, and the other presentation will concentrate on how to establish detailed “Green” and “Smart” goals for golf course and grounds managers.

Other speakers include Steve Pence of Toro, whose presentation will be, “Financing 101 – What a superintendent needs to know about financing.” Also on tap is Dr. Alex Kowalewski of Oregon State University who will discuss microdocium patch and anthrancnose.

Golf will be held at the fabulous Meadow Springs Country Club as well as Canyon Lakes Golf Course, and our wine dinner will be at Terra Blanca Winery in Benton City.

With sunshine, great golf, great wineries and great educational sessions beckoning, the Northwest Turfgrass Association will be taking its annual conference to the Tri-Cities of Washington on Oct. 6–8, 2013. Events will start with golf on Sunday afternoon at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick.

That evening, our dinner reception will be held at a trio of wineries in Richland. Our Monday will start with educational sessions at our host hotel, the Red Lion of Kennewick. Monday afternoon, golf will be held at Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland with Mark Dalton, the secretary of the NTA, the host superintendent. Our dinner reception will follow at Meadow Springs. Our conference will wrap up Tuesday morning with our business meeting and educational session back at the Red Lion.
