‘Autonomous Mowers for Professional Sportsturf’
Karin Juul Hesselsøe, Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomy Research
Arguably, the professional turf management industry is on the cusp of an automation revolution. In fact, it’s already started and soon, autonomous mowers will likely dominate the landscape.
As with all new technology, there have been growing pains for robot mowers. More products are hitting the market all the time but very little institutional based research has taken place on the subject, leaving more questions than answers.
One Scandinavian study has shone some light on areas of turf quality, reduced fertilizer costs and less us of fossil fuels. Karin Juul Hesselsøe from the Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomy Research will bring forward results and discussion of their R&D project that took place on one golf course in each of the five Nordic countries in 2019.

‘New WorksafeBC Rules Impact on the Turf Management Industry”
Doug Pasco, Consultation and Education Services, WorksafeBC
Don Schouten, Senior Prevention Advisor, WorksafeBC
Rose McDonald, Industry Specialist, WorksafeBC
For turf managers in British Columbia, major amendments to the OH&S Act came into force on September 1, 2021, all of which will impact the industry and some more than others.
There’s a lot to talk about and while a one hour webinar isn’t enough to cover everything, this session is designed to give you the low down on new requirements for headgear, high-vis clothing, pesticide REI’s and the big one, roll-over protection for mobile equipment.
No doubt you will have questions and we’re planning to have some time for this. It will be difficult to answer everything but many of you will be asking the same things. If you have a question, send it to Jerry Rousseau in advance of this session.
