Canada Post Strike Delays Nov/Dec Turf Line News Mailout

By Jerry Rousseau

My apologies if any of your friends or family work for Canada Post but this dinosaur of a crown corporation seems to be writing its own epitaph with the ongoing strike, one strategically timed to disrupt mail at the very busiest time of year and hurting the very people it was designed to serve.

Captured within this disruption is our meager Turf Line News Magazine, Nov/Dec 2024 edition, that typically includes hardcopy conference registration forms and is packed full of turf research articles, season ending updates, conference previews and more.

More importantly, cheques mailed to numerous charities will not reach their destinations at a time when the bulk of annual funding for many of these organizations is raised, thusly affecting their ability to deliver important services to those who need it.  Cough, cough, essential service, cough cough.

At any rate, perhaps we are the dinosaur and this is our asteroid moment.  Of course, we’ve had digital versions of our magazine for years now but there are still a lot of WCTA members who like a good old fashioned hardcopy to read during their private moments.

We’ll just have to wait this one out but moving forward, the Board has already decided to scrap the paper conference registration forms, which makes sense because we have other easier ways to sign-up for the show.  As for the hardcopy TLN, we’ll see what the future holds!

Should we keep the Turf Line magazine hardcopy?
