Registration Deadlines for Metro Vancouver’s Non-Road Diesel Emissions Bylaw 1329

Metro Vancouver’s Non-Road Diesel Emission Regulation Bylaw 1329 was amended in October 2021, and upcoming deadlines may impact your non-road diesel engine (NRDE) fleet.

Deadline: Tier 2 engines – January 31, 2026

•  By January 31, 2026, operation of Tier 2 NRDEs that have not been registered, with a minimum of 90 operating days purchased, will be prohibited in the Metro Vancouver region.

Compliance options

•  Register your Tier 2 NRDEs and purchase a minimum 90 day operating period before the deadline, or
•  Install an emission reduction measure to reduce the diesel particulate matter emission rate to meet the emission standard of a Tier 4 NRDE, or
•  Register after the deadline and pay a 300% surcharge in addition to the standard operating period fee.

What do you need to do?

•  Register your NRDEs now and registration labels will be mailed to you.
•  Purchase operating periods for any applicable NRDEs when operating within Metro Vancouver.

The same requirements will apply to Tier 3 NRDEs starting January 31, 2027.
