PMRA Re-Evaluating Tebuconazole

By WCTA Staff

In late January, the Pest Management Regulatory Agency of Canada announced it is undertaking a re-evaluation of the popular systemic fungicide, tebuconazole.

Tebuconazole is a triazole fungicide used to treat plant pathogenic fungi.  Turf Managers might know it better as the ENVU product ‘Mirage Stressgard’.

The announcement didn’t specify whether the review was part of the PMRA’s regular, five year re-evaluation schedule for all registered pesticides or some form of special initiative.

The notice did say the PMRA is now seeking information related to the priority of uses of tebuconazole and is contacting users, industry associations and other stakeholders for input.

In an email to stakeholders, Stefania Fawcett (Arlotta), Re-evaluation Coordinator, Value Assessment and Re-evaluation Management Directorate wrote, “The registrant of the technical grade active ingredient is responsible for providing use information to the PMRA; therefore, please be advised that registrants may contact you for your assistance. The date by which the registrants have to provide this information to PMRA is April 27, 2023.”

As a user of these products, turf manager input is valuable during the re-evaluation process and the WCTA has been in contact with ENVU for further information.  As an industry representative, the WCTA can pass along useful input to the PMRA from its members.  Any comments can be sent to Jerry Rousseau, Executive Director.
