52nd Annual Turf Managers’ Short Course Is Going Virtual
GUELPH, Ont. — This winter, turf industry professionals from all around the world can join the remote offering of the annual Turf Managers’ Short Course (TMSC). This intensive course runs from February 1 to 26, 2021 and is offered in partnership with the Guelph Turfgrass Institute and Open Learning and Educational Support (OpenEd) at the University of Guelph (U of G).
While the idea of a remote course delivery may be new and different for many, OpenEd is well-versed in providing innovative and high-quality online courses using tools and technology.
Students will receive a similar learning experience as a face-to-face course and will be able to engage with each other, interact with their instructors, and continue to build a network with other turf grass professionals. Remote course delivery also allows students to save money on other expenses including transportation and accommodation.
The remote delivery format of the month-long course includes:
• synchronous instruction sessions in real-time using Zoom with U of G faculty and industry professionals, and
• asynchronous sessions including pre-recorded lectures, self-guided study, and group activities.
The course covers all aspects of turf culture and management taught by eight experienced professionals. Course topics include turfgrass identification and management, diseases, insects, weeds, irrigation, construction and drainage, landscape management, and more.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will now earn the Turf Managers’ Short Course Certificate. TMSC graduates have contributed to the growth and success of the turf industry for more than five decades.
