2024 WCTA Student Award Winners Say Thanks!
By WCTA staff
Every year, the WCTA sets aside up to $2500 to award deserving students enrolled in an accredited Turfgrass Management program.
Congratulations to Kyle Pitts, Olds College Turf Management student working at the Kamloops Golf & Country Club and Brett MacNeil, KPU Turf Management student - both students also receive a complimentary one-year WCTA membership.
Thank you to the Western Canada Turfgrass Association and the selection committee.
I feel fortunate that I was chosen for the WCTA Scholarship for 2024. It’s an honor to be recognized by the WCTA and receive this investment in my future as I continue my education and professional development within the Turfgrass Industry.
Moving forward I will continue my education by completing school, remain involved in volunteering opportunities and push the industry in a positive direction.
Thank you again for investing in me and my future.
Kyle Pitts

I am extremely honoured to be one of the recipients of the 2024 Student Awards. Thank you Jerry, the WCTA Board, and Awards Committee for selecting me, I am beyond grateful. I had an amazing time at the WCTA Conference and Trade Show in Victoria. Everyone I met there was incredibly welcoming, helpful, and kind, which made it an unforgettable experience.
I was shown a tremendous amount of hospitality by so many people that I had just met, which is a testament to how special the turf community really is. This industry is nothing like any other I’ve experienced, and I believe it is the extraordinary people who have a shared passion for what they do that makes it unlike any other. As someone who has only just started my career journey in turf management, they made me feel like I have been part of this industry for many years and I know without a doubt that I have found my true calling here in the turf industry.
I also want to thank my instructors at KPU, especially Stan, for all the help and guidance they have provided and wisdom they’ve shared. I wouldn’t be here without it.
Once again, thank you Jerry and everyone at the WCTA. I am excited to continue learning and facing the many challenges that come along with turf management.
Thank you,
Brett MacNeil
