There is, Keith Blayney points out, much more to being a golf course superintendent than just growing grass. And yes, it is a year-round job.
In regard to his duties, Blayney, who has been at the Edmonton Petroleum Golf and Country Club since 2002, said there are many things he has to stay on top of during the spring, summer and fall playing months, including the health of the turf, staffing issues, using or not using herbicides and pesticides and course maintenance.
Then of course, there’s the every day issue of weather, especially in a place like Edmonton.
He agreed it’s a tricky job handling all the hazardous weather Mother Nature can chip his way each and every year.
