Successful Year for Japanese Beetle Eradication Program
Source: BCLNA update May 20, 2020
The results are in! Japanese Beetle numbers for 2019 indicate a successful year for the eradication program.
• The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) detected an 86% decrease in Japanese Beetles in Vancouver compared to 2018
• Most of the beetles were caught in False Creek’s David Lam Park (91.9%). This is similar to 2018 and indicates the incursion is still centralized to this area
• Only 4 Japanese Beetles were detected outside of the regulated area, and 2 beetles were found within the regulated area, but outside of the treatment area
• No beetles were detected around the 2018 positive trap in Delta
These positive results indicate your efforts and diligence are working. As we move into year three of a multi-year program, it is imperative that we continue to remain vigilant and adhere to all movement restrictions as defined by the CFIA.
