Devan Wilson Davidson 1975 – 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Devan Wilson Davidson who left his family and friends far too soon at the age of 47 years. He was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour (butterfly glioblastoma) on April 25 and passed away on May 26, 2022.
Devan Davidson, AKA Devo or Dad, was born on April 11, 1975, in Ft. St. John to his loving parents Wilson and Vivian. He was the apple of their eye at first sight. His Omi was doubly excited when she learned her grandson shared her birthday. The family spent Devan’s first few years in Buick Creek and Hudson’s Hope and then moved south to Pemberton, BC. At the age of 11, his life was turned upside down when his brother, Reid, joined the family.
As the years flew by, Devan, with the help of his dad, and cheering squad mom, became an athlete in so many sports. He loved soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and ski racing. In his later teens he took up golf. He got his first job on a golf course was when he was in grade 11, working construction on the Big Sky course in Pemberton. This sparked his interest and later became his career of choice. He spent several years partying at Guelph University during which time he completed his Bachelor of Agriculture.
Devan’s real passion was not working on the course (surprising I know), it was travelling the world. He backpacked Europe at 20 years old, checked out Costa Rica with his buddies, and had numerous Mexico trips. His backpacking adventure to Thailand was one of his favourites because he discovered scuba diving. His one scuba course became four as he continued to train and became a Dive Master. He quickly figured out that travelling cost money, and he had run out. This was when he accepted a job as the Assistant Superintendent in a little corner of BC and moved to Creston in 2003. It wasn’t supposed to be a permanent move, but he found this girl in the pro shop that perked his interest. He fell in love and that was it.
Devan married that pro shop girl, a local, Lecara Kriese, on July 1, 2006. They had three beautiful children over the years: Chloe, Owen, and Beckett. Devan continued to plan his adventures abroad and show his family what the world had to offer. As the children grew, they became athletes themselves. Devan was their biggest fan and would give them all the opportunities they needed to improve their skills. After work he was found in the back yard with the kids throwing a football, kicking a soccer ball, passing a volleyball, or shooting a basketball. Devan even learned the scoring system for Highland Dance and would know who won before the awards were over.
Devan loved nature and the outdoors. He would regularly pack up the family for hiking adventures. He had recently taken up back country skiing with his friends, beating them all up the hill and down. Devan was also known for his love of food and prodigious appetite. His world travels, and extended family’s passion for cooking helped fill him up and satisfy his tastebuds for years.
His witty humour, big smile, and love for so many things and people will leave a giant hole in so many hearts.
