WCTA To Track Pesticide Dispenser CEC's
Release Jan 30, 2015
The Western Canada Turfgrass Association (WCTA) has been granted authority by the British Columbia Ministry of Environment (MOE) to begin tracking continuing education credits (CEC’s) for the commercial and domestic pesticide dispenser certificate category.
In British Columbia, Pesticide Dispensers are regulated by the B.C. Integrated Pest Management Act and Regulations. Two types of dispenser certificates exist;
1) Commercial category for those companies that sell pesticides labeled as Restricted or Commercial (including Agricultural, Silvicultural, or Industrial). 2) Domestic Category for those who sell pesticides labelled for domestic use.
The CEC tracking program for dispensers has been modelled and will be executed similarly to the existing program for Landscape Certificate pesticide applicators, a service that has been offered by the WCTA since 2002. All pesticide dispensers, including members of both the WCTA and BC Landscape & Nursery Association are immediately eligible for this program and can enroll by forwarding us a copy of their valid Dispenser Certificate.
Point categories and requirements are the same for both Landscape and Dispenser categories and many of the CEC accredited educational opportunities will cross-over universally. There are differences in education requirements for Dispensers however and therefore, some points available to the landscape category won’t apply to dispensers and vice versa.
The very first Dispenser CEC points are available at the 2015 WCTA Conference and Trade Show taking place in Victoria, BC, March 9-12. Note that suppliers exhibiting at the trade show are welcome to attend all conference educational seminars. Approved sessions can be viewed at http://wcta-online.com/component/k2/item/1207?Itemid=176
Please note the CEC program’s concept is simple but can become confusing without a basic level of knowledge. Before enrolling in the program, refer to the list of Pesticide Applicator Certificate (PAC) recertification FAQ’s by CLICKING HERE
