Subject: Jim Slater - WCTA member passes away
Hi Jerry,
I am writing to you in regards to Jim Slater who was the Deputy Superintendent for North Vancouver District (DNV) Parks back in the late 70’s, 80’s and retired in 1995. Jim passed away Nov. 10 on Saturday and I thought that the older members of the Western Canada Turfgrass Association might remember Jim and like to be informed. He was a long time supporter of the WCTA Association and BCRPA Parks Region 2 back in the early days.
Jim was my boss at the time when I was a NVD Parks General Foreman and later through a reorg I became Section Manager Urban Parkland and Jim became the DNV Section Manager Parks Planning and Development. We worked side by side until he retired in 95. We worked for long time DNV Parks Manager Dirk Oostindie and, Dirk retired in 1992 after 35 years on the job. ( I was NVD Parks Manager and WCTA member from 2000 to 2013 when I retired as well.)
I have attached Jim Slater’s obituary for your reference and information: https://kearneyfs.com/obituaries/james-slater
If you need any further information please let me know. I can be reached by email or phone at 604-880-6243.
Best regards,
Richard Boulton
