It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vincent Helton, a cherished member of the Irrigation Association of British Columbia (IIABC) and a longstanding figure within the WCTA community. Vincent, born on September 15, 1921, left us on February 20, 2024, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be remembered and celebrated.
Vince was not just a founding member of the IIABC; he was a pillar in the irrigation business throughout British Columbia. His influence and expertise were profound, his passion for the industry unwavering. As a mentor, he generously shared his wealth of knowledge, guiding and inspiring countless individuals who sought his wisdom. Vince's journey in the irrigation field began with RainBird products, later expanding to WeatherMatic, and ultimately establishing Vincent Helton & Associates in 1983, specializing in fountain design.
Throughout his career, Vince was a staunch advocate for quality craftsmanship and integrity in every project. His dedication to excellence served as a beacon for others in the industry, setting a standard of professionalism and commitment that earned him widespread respect.
Although Vince may have passed at the remarkable age of 102, his impact continues to resonate profoundly within our community. His son, Dave Helton, carries forward his father's passion and commitment through Helton Irrigation Systems in Kamloops, ensuring that Vince's legacy of water conservation and excellence lives on.
As we bid farewell to Vincent Helton, let us remember him not only for his remarkable contributions to our industry but also for the kindness, wisdom, and inspiration he bestowed upon us all. He will be deeply missed.
ED note from WCTA archives:
Vince attended his first WCTA Convention in Penticton in 1968, and missed only one since then (as of 1998). During the 1970’s, he spent time on the executive, and in 1982, was elected president of the WCTA. He was awarded WCTA life membership in 1998 at the Victoria Conference (see above image).
