Message from the President - End of the 2024 Season!
Hello WCTA Members,
As I reflect on the past year and another turf season comes to an end, I’m reminded that it takes a special kind of person to get excited about grass.
Serving as your President has been an incredible journey filled with growth, learning, and countless moments of, let’s face it, turf talk that only we could love! I’m grateful to each of you for your unwavering support and dedication. A huge shout-out to the WCTA Board for their hard work and vision, and to Jerry Rousseau, our Executive Director, who has kept us on course with the tenacity of a freshly-sharpened mower blade.
The past growing season has proven, once again, just how resilient and passionate our community is. Whether it’s navigating regulatory changes, sharing innovative ideas, or just swapping turf tips, the dedication of our industry professionals never ceases to amaze me. We’ve tackled challenges and celebrated successes, and I’m grateful to have been a part of it all.
On the advocacy front, we’ve been busy. We saw some developments around water restrictions and pesticide regulations. While Mother Nature gave us a break with better weather, we know that issues with water rights and pesticide regulations are far from over. Rest assured, we’ll continue standing up for our members' interests and making our voices heard.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about our 61st Annual Conference and Trade Show, set for February 11-13, 2025, at the River Rock Casino Resort. I’m already getting myself revved up for the learning and networking opportunities lined up—and maybe a little time at the blackjack table. Watch for exhibitor and delegate registration details coming soon!
As we wrap up another turf season, I want to thank you for the trust, support, and camaraderie that makes this position so rewarding. I look forward to seeing the WCTA continue to thrive, and I hope to catch up with many of you at the conference in February.
Wishing you all a successful and peaceful winter season—and may your turf always be just a little greener on the other side!
With gratitude,
Stu Carmichael
WCTA President
