Prairie Turfgrass Research Center Will Wind-Down 'PTRC' Moniker

By Jason Pick

As many are aware, the PTRC lost two very capable turfgrass scientists in recent years, which has prompted an in-depth review of the sustainability of its research program.

In a recent decision by Olds College’s Center of Innovation, while acknowledging the legacy left by Jim Ross and Mark Anderson, the College will wind-down the “PTRC” moniker, and reconfigure its research team.

To better leverage existing resources, under the leadership of College VP, Joy Agnew, and Project Manager Ike Edegou, a more sustainable and effective model for turf research at Olds College has been proposed.  Strong support and interest by all partners of industry will renew a “new PTRC” research model, driving an expansion of project opportunities.   Utilizing existing partners and experts (Dr. Shabeg Briar, P.Ag., Mark Anderson, Jason Pick), the center continues to fulfill the commitments of the PTRC; completing fee for service trials, lab diagnostic services and consulting.

A broader approach to projects and services, aims to add value and diversity to available research.  Special thanks to our early renewed members and corporate supporters; the Sod Growers Commodity Group, Brett Young, Nutrien, and Syngenta, helping to ensure Olds College Turf remains a research hub for Western Canada.
