CTRF Announces 2021 Turf Research Project Funding

The Canadian Turfgrass Research Foundation (CTRF) is pleased to share current and ‘new for 2021’, turf research project funding details as follows. You can view current and past CTRF funded research reports at www.turfresearchcanada.ca.
Canadian Turfgrass Research Foundation (CTRF):
‘Understanding and predicting pesticide use on golf courses using deep machine learning’, Dr. Guillaume Gregoire, Universite Laval. $59,225 commitment for two years, partnered with FQRG ($40,000).
Alberta Turfgrass Research Foundation (ATRF):
‘Evaluating Snow Mould Control Alternatives for a New Environmental Legislation’ by Shabeg Briar Ph. D, Olds College Centre of Innovation. $15,000 commitment for one year of the two year project.
Federation Quebecoise de Recherche en Gazon (FQRG):
‘Enhancing turfgrass carbon sequestration to improve sustainability and market access’ by Alec Kowalewski, Oregon State University. $7,500 USD commitment partnered with WCTA for total commitment of $15,000 USD for one year.
Northwest Turfgrass Association (NTA) – multiple projects:
OSU1 – ‘Long term effects of topdressing and cultivation practices on an annual bluegrass putting green’
OSU2 – ‘Exploitation of alternative disease suppression using Epichloë endophytes’
OSU3 -- ‘Enhancing turfgrass carbon sequestration to improve sustainability and market access’
OSU4 – ‘Influence of plant growth regulators on core cultivation recovery time of annual bluegrass putting green turf’
OSU5 – ‘Optimal mowing height and nitrogen fertilization for improving tall fescue turf quality in winter’
OSU6 -- ‘Nitrogen sources effect on the suppression of Microdochium patch’
OSUWSU – ‘Biology and integrated management of the European Chafer’
Western Canada Turfgrass Association (WCTA) – 2 projects
‘Enhancing turfgrass carbon sequestration to improve sustainability and market access’ by Alec Kowalewski, Oregon State University. $7,500 USD commitment partnered with FQRG for total commitment of $15,000 USD for one year.
‘Effects of Plant Growth Regulators on Putting Green Aerification Recovery’ by Alec Kowalewski, Oregon State University in the amount of $15,000 USD for one year.

We would like to thank all turf researchers who applied for 2021 funding; submissions were all very high quality and we’re pleased that the turf management industry is so well-supported. The 2022 turf research funding call for proposals is planned for late summer 2021.
