Patrick Dooley Memorial Golf Tournament

15.10.14-KPU.Turf.Club.logoPatrick Dooley was a successful student athlete whose passion was golf. He had hoped to pursue a career in the golf industry, and was already a member at Mayfair Lakes Golf Course, but unfortunately passed away at the age of 16 after a short illness. 

The Patrick Dooley Memorial Endowment fund has been set up to provide funds for a deserving student to study a golf-related discipline in his memory.

Matt and His Microscope

In this very special Turf Line News article, we pay tribute to the passing of our own first year Olds College turf student, Matt Suderman. A former hockey player turned turfie,  Matt was lost recently due to complications from diabetes. The outpouring of support for Matts family, from his friends, colleagues and classmates, has been heard widely through social media since his passing.  Matt’s superintendent at Bearspaw Country Club, Darren Reddekopp, recently shared his heartfelt message which I share as our Olds College Campus news quartlerly article.

I started my career in turf management while in high school, my first job was at Cultus Lake Golf Club as a range boy. At the time it was just a part time job. I hadn’t yet realized that it would one day become my career path. If I was told that one day I would move to New Jersey, to work on one of most historic courses in the game of golf, I would have thought that was impossible.
